So I finally broke down and got an iPod. Yeah, yeah I know I’m only a decade late, so sue me. But in this day and age of netbooks, tablets and super smart phones, I never felt it necessary to need more gadgetry in my already stuffed front pockets.  ESPECIALLY, since the functions of said gadget was already incorporated into one of the other things being lugged around.
See, when it comes to change with all things music, I’m always hesitant to jump on the latest greatest thing.  I mean why change something that ain’t broken! I never wanted to give up my vinyl and cassette tapes back in the day. Hell, I didn’t buy my first CD until I went out to California in the Summer of 1995.
So one day in April, while staring around my office at the thousands of albums on shelves, in boxes and sitting on all of my hard drives it became clear that that I needed an easier way to listen to this music whenever I wanted. Â My first idea was to try to come up with some snazzy invention where I can just couple some headphones with one of my terrabyte harddrives lying around and, voila … instant radio station! However, those plans are long-term and still being tweaked around in my invention book . Â My desire to finally listen to and analyze my entire Joni Mitchell collection didnt want to wait while my prototype was being built. Â Alas, I began the arduous task of researching what mp3 player would be the winner. Â It actually wasn’t a difficult decision at all. Â I wanted the largest one available on the market. Â And fittingly enough, that was the iPod Classic. Â I’ll do my music format upgrades slowly, thankyouverymuch!
My first CD was Prince’s single Cream EP bought from Coconuts which was across the street from Cross Creek Mall. I didn’t even own a CD player. Had to go to Daz’ pad to get it dubbed onto a cassette tape.
